Sen. John McCain's plan to build up to a 100 new nuclear reactors could cost taxpayers an estimated $280 billion and presents a significant risk for the economy and the public, while doing little to solve America's energy problems, according to a new report by Environment America.
The 2008 Congressional Scorecard released by Environment America found more champions and more solution oriented votes even as the group noted that passage of environmental protections faces many remaining challenges on Capitol Hill.
In many instances the President's stated goals of combating global warming and making the U.S. more energy independent have been in no way matched by actions. We applaud his support of the energy bill which past last year. But much more needs to be done.
