Clean Energy For America

What's New

On Feb. 27, the House passed a bill extending crucial clean energy incentives that would otherwise expire at the end of 2008. The incentives would be funded by a long-overdue cut in subsidies for polluting oil and gas companies. We had pushed to include a similar provision in the energy bill that passed in December, but facing strong opposition from Sen. Pete Domenici (N.M.), it was removed from the final bill. We’re now shifting our focus to the Senate, where the bill will face a Presidential veto threat.

How You Can Help

Tell Your Senator – Keep the Clean Energy Economic Engine Going

Don’t let the Senate drop the ball on clean energy. Tell your senators that the health of our environment and our economy depend on a thriving renewable energy industry, and that we cannot let congressional gridlock bring progress on clean energy to a screeching halt.

Brief Summary

America has virtually unlimited potential to generate electricity from renewable sources of energy like wind and solar power. Environment Nevada is calling on lawmakers to support policies to get 25 percent of our nation’s energy from clean, renewable sources by 2025. The most important step toward achieving this goal is a requirement that at least 20 percent of our electricity come for renewable sources. To achieve the rest of our goal we should shift to clean, alternative transportation fuels like ethanol and biodiesel and provide incentives for families and businesses to make the switch to renewable energy.
