Tell the EPA to reduce smog pollution

Ozone or “smog” pollution can trigger asthma attacks and harm even the healthiest lungs, but the Bush administration's Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has proposed air quality standards for ozone that are weaker than what the agency’s own scientific advisors say are needed to protect public health.

Letter	Dear EPA Administrator Johnson, Ozone exposure can harm even the healthiest lungs, causing serious health problems, including asthma attacks and even premature death. Your proposal to revise the national air quality standard for ozone falls short of what your own scientific advisors have said is needed to protect public health. When you finalize the standards next year, I urge you to reject industry's pleas to weaken the proposed ozone standard or maintain the status quo. Instead, please adopt a strong ozone standard of 0.060 ppm, consistent with the recommendations of your scientific advisors. Sincerely,
