Background:
Mr. Dronkers moved to Reno in 1995 and graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno with a print journalism degree and a minor in photography. He worked as a freelance features writer for the Reno Gazette-Journal for many years, focusing on outdoor recreation, and has also been published in Climbing Magazine, Alpinist Magazine, The American Alpine Journal, The Mazamas Annual, and in various online publications. Pete entered the non-profit arena in Reno in 2004, working to uphold President Clinton's banner forest policy -- the Roadless Area Conservation Rule -- from attacks by the Bush Administration. He then worked a statewide campaign to collect data and images of Nevada's major roadless areas to help secure recommendations for Wilderness designations from the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest to Congress. His last campaign before moving to Las Vegas was in Ely, where he was the local organizer of a legislative campaign that succeeded in the addition of 558,000 acres of federal land to the National Wilderness Preservation System. On his spare time, Pete can be found in the mountains, or pouring over maps while planning the next big expedition.
